Wexley School for Girls, was an advertising agency created, by Ian Cohen and Cal McAllister that was created in 2003 and lasted until 2018. But felt like it was created in the 2500’s because it was so ahead of its time. Actually it was right for its time too and enjoyed many incredible successes and has an incredible list of alumni and had a great legacy of work. In a world where we ask our clients to stand out and be different, we had to walk the walk as well. Our general motto was that we wanted to do work we loved, with people we loved and create a place where people could do the best work they’ve ever done and have the best time of their lives doing it. I think we succeeded in most of that.
The Brand

In a world where agencies were either law firm sounding or boutique sounding, we wanted a name that meant nothing, but that we could put a brand behind. It’s what we do for everyone else, right? We should be able to do that for ourselves. So we did. From being named Ad Age’s top name of the year to being featured in every major industry magazine to having an iconic building that Seattle residents knew and loved right smack in the heart of downtown, keeping our brand pure and exciting was as important to us as doing the same for the brands we worked on.
The Fun

We had more fun than we probably should have. Is that why we aren’t in business anymore? No. It’s why we stayed in business so long. Anyhow, from throwing a 10 year anniversary party that made the Seattle Times, to renting out TGIF in Times Square New York City, to just having a day where we all threw pies in each other’s faces, it was fun. Oh, and there was the pony rides, dressing up like French people, High Five Fridays, dress up days, Morning Wood and a billion other fun, but delightful things we had fun.
The Accolades
It wasn’t just fun. We were a business. We were profitable. And more importantly our clients were. Hopefully due to a lot of the work we did. We know a lot of it worked! Sounders, Darigold, Nordstrom Rack, HomeStreet, Oberto, Virginia Mason, Microsoft, Amazon, Nike etc…all had campaigns we did that grew sales, garnered love and engagement and launched products. We won a Superbowl and 2 MLS championships during our tenure with the Sounders and Seahawks. I mean, we were winners, period.
